Annual limit for work permits set at 20,450

Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – The Government has set the annual limit for the number of temporary residence and work permits for foreign citizens at 20,450 for the next year.

Director General of the Directorate for Labour Market and Employment Edina Desic has said that 5,000 of this number of work permits is kept in reserve by the Ministry or Labour and Social Welfare, adding that they will be issued for certain purposes depending on the labour market demand.

“A total of 11,900 work permits are envisaged for foreign citizens and 3,550 for seasonal jobs,” Desic said after a Cabinet meeting.

According to her, a total of 15,450 permits have been assigned to different sectors.

“The majority of work permits are earmarked for the civil engineering, followed by those for accommodation and food services, other services and retail and wholesale sector,” said Desic.

She reminded that the annual number of work permits was defined in line with the migration policy, the current situation and fluctuations in the Montenegrin labour market.
