Both consumers and retailers to benefit from amendments

Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – Jovo Rabrenovic of the Ministry of Economy says that the proposed amendments to Consumer Protection Law will result in considerable benefits for the consumers who settle their financial obligations in a timely manner, as well as for the retailers who act professionally.

“This law protects the retailers as well, but only those who act professionally and observe laws and regulations. It will be a little more difficult for the retailers who are not professional enough as they will have to become professional, keep records and notify the consumers of all obligations they have to the retailers,” Rabrenovic told Mina-business agency.

He expects that the application of the proposed measures and amendments will result in changes very soon, which will be visible in 12 months when the first review is due.

Rabrenovic says that the proposed amendments would regulate the operation of the retailers providing the public services related to the distribution networks, such as electricity and water.

“In that way, we are letting them know that they must be professional, because they provide the services of public interest, which are essential,” said Rabrenovic, who is Director General of the Directorate for Nation Branding and Consumer Protection.
