Djukanovic expects Government and unions to find a solution

Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – The President of Montenegro, Milo Djukanovic, expects that the Government and trade unions will come to an agreement on draft amendments to the Law on Pension and Disability Insurance and that there will be no need for any radical measures.

“I am optimistic that a solution will be found between the line ministry and the Government on the one hand and the trade unions on the other and that Montenegro will continue with its balanced economic and democratic development,” Djukanovic said.

The Union of Free Trade Unions (USSCG) and the Confederation of Trade Unions (SSCG) have announced they will launch a petition for national referendum if their joint proposal for amendments to the Law Pension and Disability Insurance has not been accepted. The two unions also announced the possibility of rallies or a general strike, if the parliament failed to support the referendum initiative.

Djukanovic said that he was optimistic and that he didn’t believe it would be necessary for the unions to take any radical measures.

“I believe that there won’t be necessary to call into question a very important quality of the contemporary Montenegrin society, and that is social, political and security stability,” said Djukanovic.
