Goal is not punishing, but protection of health

Podgorica, (MINA) – The goal of the Law on Restriction of Usage of Tobacco Products is not punishing and collecting revenues from fines, but protection of the citizens’ health, the Ministry of Health stated.

This law, passed by the Montenegrin parliament in late July, came to force on Wednesday.

The Ministry of Health representative Sladjana Pavlovic said that the goal of this law, which was unanimously backed by the government and the parliament, is preserving and protecting health of all the citizens.

“Both those who consume, and those who do not consume tobacco products”, Pavlovic added.

According to her, the main principle behind this law is ban of consuming tobacco products in enclosed public spaces and in working spaces.

Pavlovic explained that smoking is strictly forbidden in eating and drinking establishmentsadding that the possibility exists to dedicate a separate part of the establishment for this purpose.

She emphasized that the Ministry’s goal, as the law sponsor, is not punishing and collecting revenues from fines.

Pavlovic added that tobacco, a silent killer, is a fundamental cause of death among the global, and thus also among the Montenegrin population.
