Habits must be changed in field of environmental protection

Podgorica, (MINA) – Montenegro will need significant financial means for meeting the requirements requested in the in the field of environmental protection, but it would also need to implement change of lifestyle of its citizens, the representatives of the Center for Ecotoxicological Research (CETI) stated.

Danijela Sukovic of CETI told Mina that all the countries met problems in implementation of the demanding legislative and standards in the field of environmental protection.

“Change in habits requests citizens’ understanding of necessity to change their, often inappropriate, attitude toward environment, as well as time for accepting new lifestyles”, said Sukovic.

She added that the insufficiently used role of educational institutions and media cannot be ignored.

Asked if she was satisfied with the progress achieved in Chapter 27, Sukovic responded that it can always be better.

“However, we should bear in mind that there are ten subsections within this chapter and that every of them is demanding in its own way”, Sukovic added.

According to her, significant financial means are necessary, as well as adequate projects and professional capacities, for reaching requirements in very demanding subsections, such as waste management, water quality, industrial pollution and environmental protection.
