Podgorica, (MINA) – Work on improving electoral legislation and further steps towards commitment of all the actors to affirmation of democratic values and mechanisms are important for strengthening the confidence of the Montenegrin society in the electoral process, said Minister of Foreign Affairs Srdjan Darmanovic.

He hosted on Tuesday the ODIHR expert delegation which is paying a visit to Montenegro within the project “Support to Elections in the Western Balkans”.

He expressed satisfaction with great cooperation of the government and its institutions with OSCE/ODIHR, as well as joint activities in the area of implementation of numerous activities which contribute to strengthening of the rule of law, improving the media legislation and electoral framework.

Darmanovic repeated the commitment to implementation of OSCE/ODIHR recommendations which were issued following the previous elections.

Deputy Head of ODIHR Elections Department Richard Lappin, who is heading the expert delegation, stressed that it is of key importance to strengthen the public confidence in the election mechanisms, and ensure open, transparent and inclusive process.
