Judiciary showed adherence to constitutional position of autonomy

Podgorica, (MINA) – By reaching the verdict against the accused in the case of the failed coup on the 2016 election day Montenegro proved once again that its statehood and independence rest on firm foundations of the rule of law which no one can shake, the government stated.

The government said in a twitter post that the judiciary showed adherence to the constitutional position of autonomy and resilience to any form of pressures and external influence.

The day when the court found 14 people guilty in the failed coup case is historical for the rule of law in Montenegro, said the US Embassy.

In a twitter post, the Embassy stated that the court found 14 persons guilty of masterminding a failed coup, including two Russian GRU officials.

“The open and transparent trial represents an important step forward for the rule of law and sends a strong message about the unacceptability of efforts to undermine democracy”, the Embassy stated.
