Kosovic: Vijesti daily do their job professionally

Podgorica, (MINA) – Montenegrin president Milo Djukanovic’s charges against the Daily pres are an indicator of Montenegro’s 104th position in regard to media freedoms, said editor in chief of Vijesti daily Srdan Kosovic and added that he would always cover the topics of public interest.

Djukanovic filed charges with the Basic Court in Podgorica against Daily pres and Atlas group president Dusko Knezevic asking for compensation of non-material damages in the amount of €100,000.

Djukanovic pressed charges against Vijesti daily for running an interview with Knezevic in the 16th of March edition under the headline “Djukanovic, myself, and a bag full of money”.

Kosovic claims that Vijesti daily acted professionally, in accordance with the rules of trade.

He said that Djukanovic’s charges are the indicator of Montenegro’s 104th position in the Reporters without Borders’ report on media freedoms and that his goal was sending a message to Vijesti daily and other media outlets not to write about his and businesses of his family.

The charges explain that the interview was announced as an exclusive one, that the headline was written in a large font, and that it was easy to conclude from the context that the intention was sensationalistic and tabloid, and not professional, in line with ethical standards.

It further explains that Vijesti acted unprofessionally and tried to deceive the public, since at the moment of the interview release several investigations against Knezevic were carried out by the Special Prosecutor’s Office. Longer version of article is available on a link MINA ENGLISH SERVIS
