Montenegro is example of success of European policy in region

Podgorica, (MINA) – By integrating the countries of South East Europe that respect and promote Europe’s civilizational values, the European Union has a historic chance to establish a unique model of lasting peace and prosperity on the entire European continent, Deputy Prime Minister Zoran Pazin has stated.

Speaking at a special event dedicated to regional stability in Europe, organized within the Crans Montana Forum in Geneva on Thursday, Pazin voiced his confidence that the new enlargement to Europe’s South East in the near future would give a strong international credibility to the EU’s values and policies and boost its global competitiveness.

According to a press release from the Government’s PR Service, the Deputy Prime Minister remarked that Montenegro is an example of success of European policy in South East Europe.

“Since we restored our independence and embarked on a journey of European and Euro-Atlantic development 12 years ago, the value of our economy has doubled and today we generate some of the highest growth rates in Europe,” Pazin stated.

He added that Montenegro is contributing actively to international peace and security through NATO and acts as a reliable anchor and promoter of European values and rules in South East Europe.

Pazin underlined that today’s complex socio-political and security environment in Europe and the world requires European leaders and citizens to demonstrate great wisdom and determination in building the European Union’s global competitiveness, not only as an economic power, but also as a progressive civilizational idea.

The Deputy Prime Minister said that the EU, as a unique supranational project of peace and prosperity, must actively and eagerly advocate and promote on the global scene its values and accomplishments.

“And it must not allow the retrograde and dangerous ideologies of nationalism, isolationism and extremism to impose themselves as legitimate alternative models for European and global development,” Pazin concluded.
