Montenegro shares European values, says Drljevic

Podgorica, (MINA) – Montenegro will continue to transform its society in accordance with the system of European values based on the rule of law, while protecting the wellbeing of its citizens, Chief Negotiator Aleksandar Drljevic has stated.

Speaking at a meeting of the EU-Montenegro Stabilization and Association Parliamentary Committee (SAPC), which started in Strasbourg on Wednesday, he voiced confidence that the Union will recognize the individual results of EU candidate countries.

According to a government press release, the SAPC members discussed the state of play in the EU accession talks, with special reference to the progress made in the areas of rule of law and economy.

“Montenegrin MPs and their colleagues from the European Parliament discussed also the Montenegrin parliament’s efforts to improve the election process, as well as the progress made in the area of sustainable development and environmental protection, and Montenegro contribution to the stability of the Western Balkans,” the press release stated.

Drljevic is said to have underlined the importance of the forthcoming EP elections.

“The outcome of the elections will largely influence the future of our relations. We sincerely hope that the new composition of the European Parliament will continue to be committed to the EU enlargement policy and the deepening of relations with our region,” Drljevic added.
