Podgorica, (MINA) – Norway will earmark €1.4 million for development of the municipalities in Montenegro through the project “Norway for You- Montenegro”.

According to the press release, by the end of the next year the project activities will be directed towards balanced socio-economic development of Montenegro, through increasing employment possibilities, support to cohesion and improvement of local infrastructure in 16 less developed municipalities.

The project activities are directed towards the municipalities with low development index, Andrijevica, Berane, Bijelo Polje, Cetinje, danilovgrad, Gusinje, Kolasin, Mojkovac, Niksic, Petnjica, Plav, Pljevlja, Rozaje, Savnik, Ulcinj and Zabljak.

Minister of Labor and Social Welfare Kemal Purisic said that employment directly affects living quality of the citizens, and the ministry he runs is ready to support such initiatives, that lead towards stimulation of generating employment by improving business environment.

According to him, the project has added value considering the fact that it will be carried out through comprehensive cooperation of various institutions at both local and national level.

The project will be aligned with relevant national strategies of Montenegro in the field of employment and balanced regional development.

Norway Ambassador Arne Sannes Bjornstad said that some parts of the country are being developed faster than the others, and new jobs are created around bigger centers.

He added that thus this project will contribute to employment possibilities in the less developed municipalities, so that citizens of those areas can achieve economic independence.

UN Resident Coordinator in Montenegro Fiona McCluny said that she was glad that UNOPS was starting the project “Norway for You” and thus supports the UN mission in Montenegro- fulfilling the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda goals.

The project, according to her, will support underdeveloped municipalities and lower regional differences in Montenegro, owing to Norway’s support.
