Nurkovic: Government doesn’t chase deadlines

Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – It was stated at today’s round table that the priority section of the Bar-Boljare motorway would not be completed within the envisaged timeframe, while the Minister of Transport and Maritime Affairs, Osman Nurkovic, said that the Government did not chase deadlines.

Nurkovic said that the Government, as an investor, had raised the bar rather high for the contractor, insisting on the consistent following of the contracted procedures and regulations in order to ensure the quality, safety and durability of the motorway.

“In that respect, we are not chasing the deadlines,” said Nurkovic.

According to the contract, China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC), should to finish the motorway section between Smokovac and Matesevo by 11 May.

At the round table organized by the Network for Affirmation of the NTO Sector (MANS), Nurkovic said that the facts related to the motorway released by the Ministry were always taken out of context and interpreted in such a way as to increase the circulation of newspapers.

“In this context, we lost sight of the fact that this is the largest project implemented in the recent history of Montenegro and that certain challenges may be encountered in the course of its implementation,” said Nurkovic.

He said that there is no dilemma that the project should be implemented, as Montenegro was among the rare European countries that had no motorway.

Executive Director of MANS, Vanja Calovic Markovic, said that representatives of the Ministry of Finance had not accepted an invitation to participate in the round table, saying that they were not sure how relevant it was for their activities.

Calovic Markovic reminded that over €1 billion would be spend for the motorway construction, which was why representatives of this Ministry should have been present at the event.
