Police Administration is no longer part of Interior Ministry

Podgorica, (MINA) – The Parliament has adopted the Law on amendments to the Law on Internal Affairs, which provides that the Police Administration is no longer part of the Ministry of Interior.

The Law has been backed by 41 MPs, with three votes against and one abstention.

Nuhodzic stated earlier that the purpose of the new law is, on the one hand, to make the Police Administration fully operational and fully functional and to ensure its financial independence and, on the other hand, to strengthen the oversight and control of police work by the Interior Ministry.

He noted that the new law would offer the best model for the functioning of the Interior Ministry and the Police Administration and a way to achieve even better results.

Nuhodzic said that certain powers had been needlessly given to Minister of Interior, adding that he was in favor of conferring those powers on the Director of Police.

The Parliament also adopted four amendments put forward by the Social Democratic Party and one amendment proposed by the Committee for Political System, Judiciary and Administration.

The Minister said that the amendments have improved the text of the law. Longer version of article is available on a link MINA ENGLISH SERVIS
