UNDP’s presence dubbed important for Montenegro

Podgorica, (MINA) – Fundamental priorities of national politics are further democratization of the society and intensive economic development, and within that framework importance of presence ad improvement of cooperation with UNDP and the UN System in general are recognized, said Montenegrin president Milo Djukanovic.

He met on Tuesday with UN Assistant Secretary-General, director of the United Nations’ Development Program (UNDP) Regional Bureau for Europe and the Commonwealth of Independent States Mirjana Spoljaric Eger.

“The activities in focus of UN and UNDP are complementary in significant extent with the strategy of Montenegro’s development and EU accession process”, Djukanovic said.

Spoljaric Eger said that UNDP remains committed to further support through investments in the field of public policies relevant for the region, in particular towards building institutions, support to institutional reforms and further development of the green economy that will provide for sustainable development.

“With committed work you can be an example of nationalization of Agenda 2030 in the region”, said she.

During the meeting with Prime Minister Dusko Marovic it was heard that Montenegro supports global role of UN and values multilateralism and shares the goals of sustainable development set out in the 2030 UN Agenda.

 

“The meeting concluded that high quality cooperation between Montenegro and UNDP has been established and that all UNDP programs in Montenegro are being implemented successfully, which is an excellent basis for cooperation in the following period”, the government’s PR Bureau stated.

 

According to the press release, Markovic and Spoljaric Eger agreed that cooperation should give priority to the projects that are complementary to the Montenegro’s EU accession process and its strategic development priorities, in line with the 2030 UN Agenda for Sustainable Development.Longer version of article is available on a link MINA ENGLISH SERVIS
