Airports of Montenegro should remain state-owned

Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – According to the representative trade unions of Podgorica and Tivat airports, Airports of Montenegro does not need a concessionaire to profit from it, but a government that will support an already successful state-owned enterprise.
“The Government should reconsider and redirect its next steps regarding the airport concession. Instead of making a foreign private operator in our country rich, the authorities should support the development of a domestic company whose employees are achieving historic results this year,” said the unions of Podgorica and Tivat airports, led by presidents Slobodan Martinovic and Ljubisa Dzudovic.
According to them, the airports do not need a concessionaire, but rather state support to further develop what is already functioning well.
“From 1 January to 7 September, we served 2.3 million passengers, which is 8 percent more than last year and 16 percent more compared to the same period in 2019,” the unions stated in a press release.
Union representatives noted that this success was not achieved thanks to a concessionaire or private investors, but solely through the work, expertise, and teamwork of domestic staff.
